A few questions from a new B6 owner
Hey all, recently picked up a 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro with 150,000 miles on it.
It was in great shape (like new interior) and seems to be mechanically sound.
So far I had Audi replace all 4 coil packs (under warranty, imagine that)
New plugs
Flushed and salvaged a completely clogged heater core, no leaks and works perfectly now.
Replaced the front calipers, the pistons were rusted and couldn't be pushed back in to fit the new pads. I replaced all fluid at the same time.
Oil change with 0w-30 Mobile 1, new filter (twice)
New tires
Disassembled both HID headlights and fixed the one fallen shutter, cleaned and fixed non working adjusting screws
The timing belt and water pump were replaced at 140,000 miles
I purchased a Bentley service manual and code reader with Vag-Com capabilities.
So here are some things I need to deal with and hopefully I can find the answers here, been looking
1. I recently started hearing a noise/vibration I think in the right rear. It sounds like I have knobby tires on the car. It's not noticeable at speeds under 30 and gets slightly louder when going around curves on the highway (only turns to the right). It doesn't change under engine load or if I put the transmission in neutral. So I'm thinking it might be one of the rear drive shafts (CV joint?) I checked the wheel bearings and they have zero play.
Any Ideas?
2. Just today I got the dreaded low oil light. So I changed the oil when I got home. No good, it still comes on after high revs. So I think sludge may have broken loose and clogged the pick-up tube.
I'm looking around to see if there is a thread showing how I might be able to address this, I understand the oil pan will not drop low enough to do this easily.
3. Slight oil leak into the number 3 spark plug tube. I picked up a new valve cover gasket with tube seals. I'll be changing that real soon. Hopefully I won't find too much crap in there. If I do, I may just dedicate a week-end and pull the head and give it a complete once over, get it nice and clean.
I guess that's it for now... I love this car so far and there isn't any problem I'm not willing to tackle

Welcome to the club!
#1: Start with the easy stuff. Move tires around and see if the noise moves. Be urprised how much can simply be a tire issue. Likely wheel bearing though. You would hear noises before you would get any play in it.
#2: Is it the low oil level or low oil pressure light? If oil level, the oil level sending unit is common fix. $80ish and easy to do during next oil change as it is attached to bottom front of pan.
#3: Very common, valve cover gasket will take care of it. Pull the coil, get out what you can with papertowels and shopvac before you pull the plug or cover.
Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the welcome.
I think I'll pull the wheel bearings out this weekend for a visual and to repack them anyway.
I'm 99.99% sure it isn't tire noise, they are brand new and don't have an aggressive tread to them.
And it's definitely a plugged screen. I only made it 10 miles this morning and the light cam on. The valves sounded like they were starving for oil so I pulled over and had it towed home. At least it was a free tow
I have the car on jack stands now with the front pulled apart. I should have the pan out early in the morning so I can clean and check everything. I'll let you know what I find.
I found a good write up on how to remove the pan and it seems pretty straight forward, just time consuming. I picked up a long 5mm hex to get those two back bolts out, I just hope they're in good shape.
I'll also do the valve cover gasket so I can check the cam journals to see if I messed them up today... I hope not.
And why clean the oil out of the spark plug tube??? I'll just take the plug out and let it drain into the cylinder and crank it over a few times to push it out.
