Hi everyone,

Just replaced my fuel filter today because I was hearing a small whining sound coming from the rear of the car at certain times. Now with the filter replaced, just before I crank the car on I hear a loud screeching sound coming from the rear of the car - once the car cranks and turns on the sound fades away and goes away completely within seconds. Should I go ahead and replace the fuel pump next? I have checked with Audi and my car is not part of the recall. Should I drive the car like that? does anyone have a good DIY for the fuel pump replacement?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Oz

I just ordered my fuel pump last week. Minw whins when it gets low on fuel. Anoying sound I might add... I went to look for a fuel filter today. All of the big stores like Autozone, Advance and O'Reiley had one. The local import part shop said he would have to order it as it was not the part they were saying it was. He said mine has a fuel pressure regulator and was about $60. Everyone else was about $15 for jus a std filter. What should I do? Do I need the regulator on the pump. Mine is a 2001.5, but registered as a 2002. It has a single serpentine drive belt as opposed to the dual belt system like most 2002 models.... Can anyone help?

ozzy is it a loud ear hurting screech or is it a lower humming noise. those are two different noises if you were just going off of description. anyhow you should be hearing the fuel pump kick in when you turn the key to the on position that how you know its working. its sending fuel to the engine. if you pump is bad your car would either A. not Start, B. Stall out at random C. Have CEL with lean or misfires. so dont go replacing whats broke drive it more to see if it is really broken b4 you do anything else. but if your really going to buy a new one sendm e your old one iill make sure it goes to good use b4 it really dies lol.

as for Bltprf i also changed my filter too but when i went to go but the one at auto zone it was not even close to the one on my car. you should really take a look at the one on your car b4 you go buy on at the store. i bought mine online some where. i dont even remember the partnumber. but here is a great writeup for a fuel filter
