Gas Mileage And Benefits FWD vs QUATTRO
#11
I have a FWD 2004 A4 1.8T w. CVT, and I get 32 mpg composite ( I drive all over the place ). I haven't driven the quattro version of the car, but to be honest, I am very happy with the way mine feels, even without the extra coolness of the AWD.

I was the same way with my first two FWD vehicles, then I got in to my truck (street truck, RWD scraper), and loved it. I then got into a Subaru Legacy Outback Limited, and it was pretty fun, the AWD made it hold on and not let go. Subaru's are no lightweight in the AWD arena, they have been at it for quite some time as well. But then, there was Quattro. If you like your FWD (and I would like to try out a CVT!! Never been in one =P ), and it works, go for it. However my personal opinion is that FWD has no place in any kind of performance driving, which is what I enjoy. If you want a commuter, and you live a straight shot from where you need to go on the flats, I can honestly say you won't miss a thing going FWD. If you use your morning drive to wake you up (in a thrilling, exotic rush kind of way), I say go Quattro.

Quattro vs FWD.
Differences on milage is around 5% up to 10%.
If you get 2000 bucks a year for fuel cost, you'll be lookin at around $100 to 200 differences a year.
If I were u, i'd rather pay the extra $200 fuel per year for Quattro.
especially if you drive in rainy, stormy, snow place.
the extra $200 could've saved your life and trouble.

I get 30MPG highway @ 55MPH (Via GPS) any stray from that and its 24MPG, this is only on a level grade. I can tell you that my V6 5 speed is much better on gas than my H6 4 speed Subaru Outback (P.O.S. in comparison to an Audi, in fact you cant even compare them, it’s a day and night difference in every aspect) I get ~26MPG @ 55MHP with my Subaru Outback, most of the change I think is due to aerodynamics the Subaru looks like a tank or a brick next to my sleek Audi. Both vehicles run on premium only and I only purchase BP or Shell Ultimate gasoline.
