Get Rid of that Egg Yolk!! (DIY blinker mod)
So I got sick of looking at the back of my car and seeing that goofy looking egg-yolk sitting inside the silver of the brake light housing, and having just put in Xenon reverse bulbs, I knew it was as simple as a 2 bolts and 4 snap-tabs for the whole job to get at the bulbs. So I decided to take my camera along for a trip to the drive way, I went to the store and got some Painters tape, Chrome spray-paint, and two pumpkins (Okay so the girlfriend came along, and she saw them at the hardware store. What the heck was I supposed to do, say no? lol). My recommendation of the week, *buy rubber gloves*!!! The yellow kind you'd use to wash dishes. After several complements on my chrome fingernail polish, and also pumpkin gook, it was decided that they would be worth while.
So after she got the pumpkins done (which, naturally, came first), I got to get started on the "mod"
The basic idea is to pop the brake light assembly off, you pop the fabric cover open inside your trunk, they are attached at the front-of-vehicle side via fabric hinge.

Then use a 10mm socket or Phillip's head screwdriver to unscrew the bolt. I used the socket, as a screwdriver wasn't giving me the torque I needed. When you have it unbolted, you can pull that side away, I then turned the assembly up and down, and that will unsnap the two pieces that pop in on the other side of the assembly. See the picture for what you are unpopping.

Now comes the fun part, unsnap the two tabs.

You will need to pull out one side first, the side that was towards the center of the car, left side of light for right lamp, right side of light for left lamp. This is because of the outer bulb being positioned sideways.

Simply take the bulb out, wrap the metal in painters tape, and then spray it lightly. I did a solid coat, and the light still comes through, but the lighter you go the better it will shine at night. It is important to note that it still *shines* yellow.

I taped it to my tool box in the driveway to let it dry out.

After it dried, I popped it back in to the bulb socket
http://picasaweb.google.com/Sublime8...60084934202242
I then popped the covers back on, and popped those two tabs in to place on each side, and then bolted it back in. It was really just a reverse of the removal.
There you have it! No more egg yolk!

And with the blinker on:
http://picasaweb.google.com/Sublime8...60174741253346
It is noticeably dimmer, but I demonstrated no moderation with the paint. Also, on the right side, there is a bulb on my lights that I put there when I did the reverse-bulb Xenon upgrade. The Stock A4 will have an empty bulb socket on the right side. Putting a bulb in does no good, you still only have one rear fog light. If anyone knows how to correct this, I'm all ears...
Anyway, this is my first write-up of many, I'm open to any helpful criticism or tips, and let me know of any changes I should make. Thanks!

Looks good! A little btw, Sylvania makes a coated bulb to get rid of the orange as well (7507AST rear and 3457AST for front)

still, it's cheaper than spending $20 on bulbs (set for the front and rears).

Yea the stealth bulb is what its called. Great simple mod. just dont get to crazy with the spray paint. Apply light coats until u cant see the orange. IT will become dimmer but i think it looks nicer like that at least on my tails.
