Default Hi guys, need strut replacement 03 Audi 3.0 Quattro

Hi guys, my car is bottoming out whenever I go over speed bumps, even at low speeds. I'm looking to change out the front struts because the ride is super bouncy. My car's an Audi A4 2003 Quattro. I bought it from a private lot and I believe they said it's a sport packaged A4. My car does look lower and I believe my struts are in fact a red color. Can someone guide me in the right direction as to what struts to purchase? Can I simply use regular non-sport package struts? And are the 1.8's and 3.0's the same struts? Someone told me the struts for the cabriolet version is different.

Thanks again..

Sheri

im thinking the struts are the same. its the springs that run different from 1.8 to 3.0
As for the red shocks those are the sport shocks. If u get regular black shocks your car will sit higher then it previously sat. If u run aftermarket koni or bilistein are the brands preferred.

Thanks pa4ul. Can someone confirm this also before I make a decision on the purchase?

Audi B6 A4 Quattro V6 30v > Suspension > Shocks > ES#436994 Front Strut - Priced Each - 8E0413031CK
these are the ones u want if u want to make ur car excatly the way it was prior. If u plan on lowering it in the future i would suggest upgrading to koni sports or anything other then stock as the stock shocks cannot handle the rebound from a sport spring.

Hi again Pa4ul,

Wow.., those are the ones. However, I'm not looking to keep this car for too long, and would rather purchase some cheap kyb's on Ebay. Just that I'm not sure whether those would fit. They say for my vehicle but it doesn't mention whether it'll work for the sport packaged a4's.

it will work. most people actually swap out stock shocks for sport ones to get a better stance. If u really want to cheap out look into munroe shocks.

Again, thanks for helping out. I've spoken to my mechanic today and he says the shock only determines stiffness, and does not raise or lower your car. Only some Bilstein shocks offer height adjustments. He also said the stock a4 shocks will work, but they may not last as long as the actual performance ones that came with the sport packaged springs. I think this will work in the meantime. Anyhow, thanks again..

no shock will offer height adjustment unless its a coilover system. It will adjust dampening but not height. And bilstein isnt the only one to offer this. Koni sports offer adjustment and are cheaper too. Not to mention that a sport suspension sits lower cuz the shock can handle more dampening from a higher compressed spring. so throwing on stock struts is probably not a good idea if u plan on running the car for more then a year as they will blow prematurly cuz of the sport spring "ie" waste of money.
