High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure
Hi All,
New member here with a technical question.
I just brought my 2005 A4 2.0T in for a routine oil change and to diagnosis my check engine light which came on during the week. When they did the diagnosis, they (local Audi dealer) said that it appeared to be a high pressure fuel pump problem and would need to keep the car overnight. Upon further diagnosis they said the cam on my high pressure fuel pump came apart and sent metal shards into my cylinder head. They needed to do more disassembly in order to accurately quote me on the extent of the damage. The estimates they threw at me was anywhere from $2,500 to $5,100 depending on the damage they find.
Does it make any sense that the car appeared to be running fine when I brought it in for service would have this kind of damage? I love the car but it does have 170K miles on it and I am wonder is this even worth it.
thanks for your feedback/suggestions.
