Hey all, recently changed my oil on the Audi and went for the synthetic..first time i figure in this car, correct me if i'm wrong, they came with conventional. Anyways 50K 3.0; I did this thinking the synthetic would last a little bit longer, anyhow about a month later I got the low oil light, checked it; quite low, so I added more, I've been religiously checking it since and it seems to burn more, didn't have this issue with conventional. Should I go for the blend, or just go back to conventional?

Question 2, upgraded my rims from 17 to 19, do I need an alignment on this, most peeps say no, but I figure good idea anyhow...thoughts? Thanks!

 

i didnt realign but always a good idea to have it checked. Perhaps u have a oil leak and its burning off before it has time to touch the ground.

 

I was told my 02 A4 came out of the gate with synthetic, so I have stuck with it. And I've always have been told to switch back and forth is very bad and hard on the gaskets, and this info comes from my brother that worked in a shop for over 10 years and everyone else backing him.

 

Im coming up on a oil change here, and I keep seeing different viscosity that people are using. Currently I've been capping off with mobile 1 5w30. Its summer here so I was thinking of 10w30..but I also keep hearing people use 0w40...and that a 40 hot weight is good...need some insight here...worried that synthetic without the proper weight is just too thin...help!

 

rule of thumb for oil. outside temp determines what oil to run.

 

Audi has a list that they release for approved Oils. I believe for Mobil1, they recommend the 0W-40 and 5W-40.

DO NOT EVER run conventional on these cars, unless you are breaking in a motor.

OP, if you are losing oil every month, it is leaking from somewhere. I would check the valve cover gasket and cam tensioner seal.

 

thanks for the replies, back to the rims, I finally got them on, look great, only downside now going up two sizes is i really notice the accel difference, much slower now with the 19s...kinda a bummer but as long as they look good right?
