Default Just installed an intake...slower?

I just installed the AFE intake for my 05 A4 1.8L. As we all know, the cars in stock form are a little "peaky". I no longer have that issue at all....in fact, the car feels slower by the seat-o-meeter. The RPM's come up slower...or so it feels that way.

This was a nightmare to install. I would have left the car with the factory intake if I were to know what I was getting into. The only significant problem I had on the install was a 3-way valve on the intake side. It looks as if there is a switch, solenoid or something that was hooked up to the factory boot. I had to reduce the aftermarket hose from a 5/16" to a 1/8" vacuum hose. This is the only significant change that I had to do.

Does anyone know what this valve does? What do you all think about the RMP's coming up slower?

The new intake seems to be better on the fuel economy on the highway test...just not in the power department.

Thank you for any advice.

Well, the car never popped a code...but it had to be with the intake system. So I removed the MAF and gave it a good cleaning. Worked like a champ. This got me thinking that maybe something was wrong. So I unplugged the MAF to pop a code...yep..works just fine.

Unless you're moving up to a mammoth turbo, where you have to change intakes, buying an intake is useless. Some have been shown to actually decrease HP. The stock airbox has proven to work best. And this is from someone who has a pricey Carbonio.

The valve is the N75 valve. Make sure you have the correct outlets of it going to the correct hoses. N75 controls wastegate actuator, so unless you're running an MBC/EBC, you kind of need that there.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be doing a turbo upgrade in the future, so it was worth the money right now. After I got the MAF fixed...runs great.

Sweet car by the way!!!

Another update. For now I keep pulling the P0172 code...clean the maff and it is good for a few days. This is getting a little annoying. I will be buying a silicon intake tube and reinstall the OEM equipment.

Sounds like the oil coated re-usable air-filter is/was soaked in oil from the factory (COMMON). Your maf is collecting that excess oil as the intake air passes by the maf. Very common with re-usable aftermarket air-filters. Take air-filter off and shake the living **** out of it (maybe not quite that hard but you get the idea). Reinstall. Your maf should stay cleaner much longer.

Clean and oil air-filter (shake off excess) everyother oil change and clean your maf at the same time to keep it all tip-top.

Shane, Its possible. I would just shake the crap out of the filter before you install it as krystallbluea4 said.

I have the same AFE intake as you. 1st make sure that your intake is securely fastened onto the Turbo and all your connections are tightened. I had a friend of mine check these things over and he mentioned some of the parts were loose. I recommend you double and even triple check these parts again. For me the car seems a lot faster and the turbo spooling up sounds better.
