What kind of oil do you use?

I'm going in for my 70k service at a shop called QuattroHouse in Newark NJ. They said its going to be $215 total for the service...

I'm wondering if I should buy my own oil and oil filter and have them use it or just trust them to use good oil and a big oil filter...

I called and they said that they use 100% synthetic oil but I didn't ask what brand and how big the oil filter would be...

I heard about this place here on the forums, but you never know..

P.S
I just turned this into an all out maintenance thread

Man I just changed my oil on my 04 B6. I bought big filters from ECSTUNING.com for like $5 bucks and 5 quarts of Mobil1 100% synthetic for $23. My oil changed cost me $28 bucks and took like 15 minutes...granted i bought my car minus the belly pan. I could never pay that much for an oil change.

The 3.0L engine can run just about any you want to use, synthetic is always better of course, but you could run standard 10w-30 without any problems with your oil clearances.

just to let u guys know... 215 is not jut for an oil change... its for the entire 70k mile service.. but I decided to do everything myself since the entire 70k mile service is just a bunch of checking.. so I'll be filling up my own fluids and changing the oil... I already bought 6 quarts of mobil 1 at autozone and am going to take it somewhere for the oil to be changed for $25

did you take it to the dealer to find out what the 70K service entailed? Audi of Rochester by my place told me they usually bleed the brake lines, flush the coolant, cabin filter, and a couple other things...he said it would cost around $1000! its hard to justify that $ for "preventative maintnance"

I do all my own oil changes. Mobil 1 0w40 and OEM filter is what I use, but I have a 1.8t, not a 3.0. But like auditech79 said, you can use pretty much anything... but I'd personally stick with a full synthetic.

thanx guys.. I decided to do my own fluid checks... I poured more coolant in (with 50/50 water mix) and poured more window washer fluid... the instructions on the coolant bottle said I was supposed to drain the coolant before adding more... I didn't... Is it really necessary?

Now all I have to do is take it somewhere to have the oil and the air filter changed for $20
