Default mileage?

I have a 2003 A4 auto 1.8t and am getting between 20 -22 mpg. My driving is mostly suburban with some city and highway thrown in. I don't race at stoplights and my driving is not that "spirited". Am I getting what I should or is there someway to improve? What are others getting? Curious.... 83k on it, new tires.

If you're mostly traveling at speeds in the 30-40 MPH range with stoplights and such thrown in in suburbia, that sounds reasonable to me - like ilackav8 said, mine gets 18-20 or so city (sometimes 21 if I drive REALLY gently), and on my 27 mile commute to work on the highway, I usually average 26-28.

Mine is a 5-speed manual, though, so theoretically I ought to get just a hair better mileage than you guys with autos - slightly less power loss through the trans. That said, mine's a quattro, so if yours are FWD, you'd probably get slightly better mileage than me.
