Need Help....valve cover gasket replacement...broken pipe????
Hello there...I'm not very inclined when it comes to mechanics so take it easy on me....I recently found a great write up on how to replace the valve cover gasket and I went ahead and did the job (2005 A4 1.8T...B6). Everything went well until I was almost done....on the valve cover there are two pipe openings towards the firewall side....a small rubber tube and a large rubber tube attaches there....when I was putting back tubes and their clamps I noticed that the larger rubber tube (y shaped) was not attached to anything on the side where the tube faces down....when I checked it, the clamp was attached and a piece of metal pipe was broken off inside of it....I saw where the pipe would attach as its curving down but like I said it was not attached.... the car drives perfectly and I have no issues whatsoever (other than the leaky valve cover gasket)....can anyone please tell me what that rubber tube attaches to and how important is it...I know for a fact that I didn't break it when I was working on it (and you could tell that it has been broken for quite a while)...Thanks for any help...Andre.
If its behind the valve cover its one of the PCV lines, not super important to the running of the engine, but you CAN suck dirt and crap into the engine from there which will get in your oil, which is bad.
