need help. wont crank.
I need some help with 2002 A4. I got off work and wanted to start but the battery didnt have enough juice to start it so did decided to pop start my car since i was on a little hill, so i rolled it foward and poped the clutch and it started fine. When i got home i turned the car off and tried to started again because i thought the battery would be somewhat charged but i didnt crank or do anything. I decided to get a jumper cables and try to jump it using my brothers car. No luck. the car wont even crank. I did notice on the message indicator in the dash that it says "press clutch to start engine". I press clutch and the message wont go away. Is this message supposed to go away when the clutch is pressed? could something have happened when i pop started it? what could be causing it not to crank. Your help is really appreciated.
replace the clutch switch.. theres 2 of them. replace the second one that is higher than the first one. or you can test it by unplugging the sensor and put a jump wire between the 2 wires in the connector and see if the car starts
Thanks for the response. I did notice that there were 2 switches at the clutch pedal. I'll try that later today when i get off work. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. I'll send an update later today.
Update on not cranking issue. Changed the clutch switch and still wouldn't start. decided to take my battery to have it checked out and they said it was holding a 50% charge so i bought a new battery. Installed battery and still wouldn't start, i kinda knew it wouldn't but i could now hear clicking noise on the starter so i new that the starter was getting juice. changed the starter and started right up. I think the problem was a combination of all 3 components. Bad Switch, low battery, bad starter. I also noticed that the message "press clutch to start engine" does not go away when you press clutch. It continues to appear and the car will start anyway.
