New coilpacks & spark plugs!!! NEED Help
So I got my car flashed with revo software a few months back and I never switched out the coil packs and plugs like I heard most people do to maximize the performance. I have felt my car hesitate many times and i figured it was time to buy some new ones. Just ordered the Oem revision "R" and the ngk plugs that a step cooler from ecstuning. I was just curious as to how hard it was to replace these things and what tools I would need. I know I need to gap the plugs to .028, I do most of the stuff to my car myself but this is one thing I wanna do right the first time, any help would be sweet... Thanks
All you need is a flathead screwdriver to release the wiring harness from the coils. Then use it to gentley pry up the coils from their holes. It's pretty easy. Then of course you'll need a spark plug socket, and an extension to remove the plugs. To gap the plugs you'll need a gapping tool... Oh make sure you torque your plugs back to spec (you should check exactly what your car calls for) otherwise they can loosen, and cause other problems.
Changing plugs and coils is probably the easiest thing your ever gonna do to your 1.8T.
Just take off the engine cover, dis-connect the harness to the coils and pull the coils out. Use a 5/8 spark plug socket (or metric if you have it) and pull out the plugs. Gap the new ones and hand tighten them in. Tighten the new plugs to about 40NM, or 20ft lbs.
Pop the new coils on and your good to go.
