Default New guy questions

With the addition of a new baby, my wife will be taking over my SUV, and I will start driving her car. 2005 A4 1.8T Quattro 6spd manual - ust under 60,000 miles.

I have a couple of questions.

How do I determine if this is a 2005 or 2005.5, and what are the differences?

What performance modifications would provide the best bang for my buck? I am looking for a little more horsepower out of the ride. I do not mind spending some money, but want to ensure I spend it in the right spots.

All suggestions appreciated.

On a sad note to many here I am sure:

I am the GM of a recycling facility in Oxnard, CA, and the local Audi test facility regularly hauls in nearly new Audis so that we can destroy them and ship them to the shredder. All models - including S series and SUVS. I have probably watched fifty or more destroyed in the last 8 months. THAT is hard to watch - next time I will snap a few pictures and post them. If you can stand to look at them.

Thanks,

MS

Easiest way to know 05 or 05.5 is probably the tail lights. 05s are more square, 05.5s are more long and rectangular. For more hp youll want to start with a chip.

Wow, fifty shredded new audi's. I will trade them mine to shred instead of a new one and take the new one. Sometimes I want to shred mine for the sheer pleasure and misery saved haha.

So there is a hierarchy of value when it comes to mods. I am still trying to get mine to run well but it goes something along the lines of a chip, better exhaust, better intake etc. I'll let the tuners chime in. This is a question that should be a sticky imho.

Front end looks quite different too - just google "B6 A4 Audi" and "B7 A4 Audi" and look at the pics. If yours matches the B6, it's a 2005 - if it matches the B7, it's a 2005.5. That said, was the B7 even offered with the 1.8T? (I thought that when that came out, it had the 2.0T right away.)

Gotta agree with shane on the power thing; the easiest place to start is a chip; there are many available, and the "Stage 1" offerings from most will get you in the neighborhood of +35-40 HP, for a total of around 210 HP. If you want more, some offer "Stage 1+" programming, which requires larger fuel injectors and nets another 20 or so HP, for a total of around 230. (This is what I'd like to do to mine when/if I ever have some spare cash.)

Any more power than that usually requires a larger turbo and other supporting mods (exhaust, intercooler, etc), and can get pretty expensive pretty quickly.

Most appreciated. I am assuming there is a lengthy thread here somewhere about what chips I should consider.

Most appreciated. I did determine it is a B6. I see there are numerous threads about what chips I should consider.

Also struggling with what wheel/tire size I can squeeze under the fenders.

I have a couple sets of Audi wheels - from and S6 and an S4 - but I think I need spacers for those. Not sure spacers are a good idea. Did I just hijack my own thread??

nothing wrong with spacers. Just make sure they are hubcentric. And u will need longer bolts.

Man you can crush Q7s all day long. Not a single Audi person is going to cringe at that.

You can crush Volkswagon TT's and A3 with it.
