I just did the valve cover gasket and replaced spark plugs at the same time on my 2003 A4, 1.8T AMB.

Plug 1 was fine, plugs 2, 3, and 4 were all bathing in oil from leaking valve cover. Actual spark side was fine. Plug 4 was so bad the oil was almost an inch up the coil. I was concerned it would start again after that much oil going into three cylinders but it was fine.

I just bought the car in December and the first chance I've had to put some time into the car. Just looking for thoughts on how normal this is. At 91k miles it is probably the first time valve cover gasket has been done.

I figure in another week of driving I'll pull the plugs again and check for oil on the plugs again.

I'm new to Audi and this engine so just checking.

As long as you get all the oil off the plugs and coils they should be fine. However those stock push down coils are crap, so if it starts misfiring you should buy a set of Hitachi bolt down coils.

 

Thanks for the info. I had the coil recall performed after I bought the car so they have been fine so far. Hopefully the newer ones will do the job for a while, but I will keep the Hitachi bolt downs in mind for the future.

 

hitatchis are definatly the way to go. I put them on 3 years ago and never looked back. To this day still not a problem.

 

How much do they run? And were can u find them?
