Default Oil level warning message

A few days ago, after recently changing my oil and refilling exactly to the top mark on my dip stick, my low oil level warning came on. I checked the oil and it was at the full mark and after sitting a while it returned to normal. Within another few miles it returned. I added a tiny bit of oil (about 1/8 inch on the dip stick) and it's been fine since. I'm reluctant to run it slightly overfilled, but also nervous about the low oil warning. Anyone out there have this happen to them?

I'm not sure why, but I discovered that my PCV system was plugged and the vent hose was also rotted through. After replacing the unit and related hoses, the problem has not come back even running the proper oil level on the dip stick,

I'm not sure if the warning is caused by low level or low pressure. If the latter, then it makes sense that the PCV issue could contribute to the warning. I sometimes see that in the 2003 A4 when it is run at high speeds in hot weather. Upon checking the oil level, it is usually within the normal operating range.

Thanks for the input. My low oil warning was generally happening on hot days at highway speed. Now it has quit so I think you may just be right.
