Default oil problem

my car looses about 1.5 quarts of oil a week. when lookin at the engine from the front there is some oil on the right side of the engine. i cant see where it comes from and audi cant figure it out either because everytime i bring it there the problem magically dissapears. any thoughts and also is there an over flow hose for the oil if you put too much in???

i think there was a bulletin for a fix of a vent hose (?) or something like that. take it to the dealer for a check and possible free fix.

On the right side could be related to the filter. Does the filter have oil on the outside?

audi told me the first time i took it there that the oil filter was put in a little crooked ( witch they installed earlier) and said some oil was leaking from it and they put it back on and i still have the problem. audi also replaced the valve cover gasket because they thought it might have been that but its not that either

If the filter was crooked they probably cross-threaded the filter mount.

If you have smoke coming out the back is more than likely your head gasket, not the valve cover gasket. Also before doing that have the PCV replaced, they can cause oil loss. Keep an eye on the oil until you have your problem figured out, and don't top it off with any oil, use full synthetic...

On the upside you have constantly fresh oil...
