Looking at purchasing an '04 A4 3.0 quattro 50k miles, dealer asking 15k.

I am decently versed in my '01 A4 1.8T but have had enough of the B5 and its issues.

Just wondering what kind of problems the 3.0's have and what to expect.

Hopefully I won't be scared away 'cause I am ready for a new fix!

the 3.0s have all the same maintenance issues as the 1.8ts. the biggest difference is that they are harder to work on (tighter engine bay than the 4cyls), and might get worse mileage. all other recalls or electrical issues are identical across the board though.

also 15k? thats way too high. I bought my 2003 1.8t nearly 4 years ago for that price (from an audi dealer),and it had 40k on it then.

Edit: I just checked and according to KBB, that price is reasonable. But I'd shop around a bit or go for the 1.8t for way less cash, or pony up just a little bit more and buy an early b7 (2005.5+). theyre coming way down in price now

Don't buy a 3.0

It is prone to catastrophic engine failure for coolant seeping into cylinder walls creating misfires.

You will come across a few owners here that haven't had this problem with their 1 car with this engine. But i've seen 1,000 A4's with this engine and i've seen atleast 50 with this problem. You can gamble if you want...... But i would but a 2.0, Audi had put extended warranties to 110k for every major problem with this engine

 

As in AVK 3.0 ltrs? Just curious , have not seen that yet.

 

Did the 3.0 get the extended warranty or are you talking about the sludge warranty for the 2.0T. Any ideas on where to find the extended warranty info? I looked but no luck.
