Overheating problems with 1.8t engine
So just last November, 2013, I had some overheating issues with my A4 (2004, 1.8t), and after replacing the water pump, coolant flange, and various other things it was resolved when the mechanic found a crack in the cylinder head. Because I had invested so much time and money already the shop generously gave me the owner's son's cylinder head for free (he had recently been in an accident and wasn't using his car). This seemed to resolve the issue until this last month when the engine began overheating again. The mechanic I'm at now is telling me that the head gasket is blown and since I replaced it already 8 months ago that the cylinder head might be warped. My question is whether I should just replace the gasket, or do I NEED to buy a new engine? I should add that I did drive it a few miles before noticing it was overheating. Could this have blown the gasket? Thanks.
