probably a stupid question

All cars run a risk of damage when they go a different direction than they were built for. I think that would take long term abuse to show up in parts breaking, but it can still happen.
What's worse, is that it's altogether likely that while your doing this, you will hit a dry patch or something you didn't notice under the snow. At that point, you start REALLY breaking stuff.
As my dad says, never use your toys for transportation, and never use your transportation like it's a toy. These cars were made to have fun accelerating, but they weren't made to go sideways.
Just my opinion, FWIW.

As far as drifting, you should be ok, just don't hit anything.

as far as drifting goes make sure you know what ure drifting on as far as rock and pot holes under the snow, so choose the location you know like a parking lot youve been to before, make sure its empty too. and as far as toys statement yeah its very wise, but you still should know how your car acts when its out of control.

Thanks for the responce, yeah i figured as long as i dont hit a dry patch, ill be good. I know its not made for it but i see tons of videos of audis drifting in the snow.
Like borninrussia3 said, the empty parking lot would be the only place i would do this.
Thanks

The first snowfall I always break the rear-end loose so I can practice bringing it back under control. Only do it in a parking lot or in my development where there is nothing to hit. Both my A4 and A6 resist fishtailing, and both are very easy to get back under control. Neither one likes to pull a donut although I've not tried with the ESP off. That being said, an occasional slide won't hurt anything (unless you hit something) because that's what cars do.
