Default Problem with my Car key remote?

Hello all I'm new to the forums, glad I got the chance to join the community.. I'm the proud of owner of a 2004 Audi A4 1.8L Quattro B6, she is still young with only 35K so I'm really excited about our future together. The problem is with one of my car key remotes, the one I have doesn't open anything?? Car, trunk, doors, nor does it activate the alarm panic button.. Does the key need to be reprogrammed because of the transponder microchip system?? Not sure why my key is not working and my wife's is since they are both the original Audi keys. Can someone please give me some good advice on how to solve this. Thanks in advance.

Open the car manually with the fob that is not working, then turn the ignition on/off again. That's how I activated mine when it didn't work.

not sure why it seems to "forget" what car it belongs to,but that always works for me

the battery may need to be replaced. My remote needed new batteries and that did the trick.
