Default Problems with A/C

My A/C stopped working yesterday morning . When I got in the car and turned it on it worked fine for about one minute and then the Econo light came on and the A/C hasn't worked since. I checked the pressure of the low side and it read over 100psi. I know it should be around 40psi with the system on high, but what should it read when the compressor isn't running? It has always blown ice cold before this. Any help would be great since no A/C isn't cool in Florida. Also, I would imagine the system isn't leaking if it is holding over 100psi....what do you guys think?

You have to check the pressures on BOTH sides to diagnose the system. If the low side is that high than you would have to see what the high side says to see whats wrong. If the high side is way up there, like around 300+ it would seem like a pressure cycling valve is stuck closed and the system shut itself off to prevent damage.
Now if both readings are around 100 psi, its probably a bad A/C compressor, but thats not likely.

Ok, so I get in my car this morning and just for sh**s and giggles I turn on my AC and it works perfectly....wtf....then I get into the car to leave from work and it still works but not as well. It took about 10 minutes before it was as cold as normal. Could it be that it just needs to be recharged or maybe the accumilator needs to be changed??

I will check the pressures in both sides of the system as soon as I get ahold of gauge set.

Is your exterior temp sensor malfunctiong at all? Meaning does your gauge say less than 40 degrees and has that little snow flake on the screen when its hot outside? If the snow flake is on in the dash it will keep the A/C compressor from working so it won't freeze up the evaporator.

No, the temp sensor is working....I'm in Florida so I've only seen the snowflake twice . I will keep a close eye on it though and see if I notice anything strange about the readings.

Could be the high pressure switch. That's what mine was.
