rattle sound help!!
so let me start off with the car..... its a 04 a4 1.8t . the problem started when i noticed a vibration sound inside the car. once you step outside it is defiantly noticeable but its not as loud as it seems from inside the car. inside it sounds like metal vibrating against metal. it seems to be from the rear and it happens even when im in park which leads me to believe its exhaust related . sometimes when my foot is not on the gas im just moving along it goes away but once i get back on it starts up again . it seems like once the car gets "hot" after like a half hour of driving it goes away , only coming back in very short spurs. now i cant really fit my head under my car because its an ultrasport but im just looking for ideas as to what i should look for and what it could possibly be .
I am experiencing a similar noise also in my 04 Ultrasport. Seems to be coming from rear passenger section. The car sits so damn low I can't see under it.
I thought it was a wheel bearing starting to dry up cause it shares similar humming/rubbing notes, but the noise is there at idle too.
What pump ? Fuel pump? Isn't that under the rear passenger seat/trunk area like the B5S4's?

Anyone know what would cause this? Today the sound got obnoxiously louder. The whole rear section of the car vibrates at idle. It sounds like a pump is vibrating sending shock waves thorough the car.
What pumps are located rear passenger by the gas tank??

...on the side of road waiting for tow truck. Fuel pump took a crap.
dbestn, I suggest you address the problem ASAP. Otherwise you'll also be roadside in the near future searching frantically for that "emergency beer" while waiting for the hook to come to the rescue.

if its coming from the passenger side rear (usually by the seats on the bottom of the car) its the fuel filter. if it gets really clogged it can cause the pump to die because the load is increased. the pump is on top of the tank itself, there is a small access panel you take off and you can see the pump easily. about a 10-15 minute DIY
