I'm down in Vancouver for the day.
2004 A4 1.8T, Tip, 55K miles
mild acceleration from a light, the CEL came on and the engine started running really rough, no power. I'm guessing/hoping it's a coil pack gone bad. Would a bad coil pack cause this (flashing CEL, rough running, lowpower.) I drove about 2 miles to find somewhere with internet to get online and see what may be up.
Any advice the group can give would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

99% its a coil pack, few bucks and a few minutes and i bet youll be on your way. pretty much exactly what happened when i had a coil pack go bad, i just went ahead and replaced them all instead of one.
edit: yes a coil pack would 100% cause a flashing CEL

its most definetly a coil pack. mine did the same thing, turned out one coil pack cracked and the other was bad. difference afterward was huge. also, once they were replaced, at idle my CEL light flashed for about half a minute and then stayed on once the problem went away but dont worry, if this happens its most likely because a small amount of oil got inside the cylinder.
Just go replace your coil packs

Thanks guys,
being the cautious type, I carry a spare coil pack. Banged her into position 1 (the one closest to the front bumper?)and voila, all is good. The check engine light is still on, if oil got in the cylinder, how would I go about cleaning it out? Would it only get into the cylinder witht he bad coil pack or would I need to clean them all? I think I might go crazy if I have to drive around with my CEL on all the time. What fault code will it throw if there is oil in the cylinder? I'm going to VAGcom it as soon as I get home.
Thanks for the fast replies.

I dont think the oil is much of a problem. it mustve been a miniscule amount in my engine because it never presented a problem again. I wouldnt worry about it. idk what fault code would show up, sry
