A couple days ago the most catastrophic thing that could happen to a brake system happened to my rear right side brake. To make an extremely long and ridiculous story short I need to replace the rotors, pads, caliper, and everything on that side. I called around and to the dealerships to see what size calipers and rotors I needed and they all assured 255mm for my model (I have 2005 A4 3.0L v6 ultra sport package). I got all the parts and my boyfriend and got the rotors and pads into the caliper, but when we went to go install the caliper carrier back onto the car, it didnt fit (the 2 holes are drilled in about a centimeter short on each side). Would that indicate the wrong measurements for the caliper? Im not trying to sound completely clueless (I am a girl but I know cars) I just dont understand why it isnt fitting after being assured by the dealer and everyone else that it is the 255mm set up?

 

have u pushed back in the piston yet with a clamp?

 

Are you saying that the holes on the caliper don't line up with the holes on the carrier? So you can't get the caliper bolted back onto the carrier? Is it like that on both sides?

 

Yes the mounting bracket didn't fit, but we brought the old one and the new one to a shop and he was able to save the old bracket and put the new carrier bolts and stuff onto it and it works fine now. But I will say this,changing the caliper, pads, and rotors on there are not fun. And that tool to get the piston back down is literally the best thing in the whole world to have

 

Changing out the brakes seems daunting at first. But once you do it once, and then proceed to more difficult and annoying repairs(control arms anyone?) then the brakes seem easy in comparison.

And I agree with you on that tool. Trying to push back the piston on the rear calipers without that tool is almost impossible.
