Reliability of '02 A4 3.0? I'm looking at one...
I have owned a 2003 A4 3.0L quattro since new, now with 105,000 miles. I have replaced the fuel pump under warranty and had some work done on my shift mechanism (Tiptronic) also under warranty. Other than that no problems at all. I use full synthetic oil @10,000 mile intervals, changed spark plugs, air filter, brake fluid, coolant, other work like that according to the schedule in the manual. I am replacing the timing belt this week. It has been a very relaible car.
I have had mine since new and with 95,000 miles I have had no mechanical issues, just a few failed sensors and had to replace a front axle assembly ($130 online $50 for a mechanic to replace vs the $859 the dealer quoted). Best advice anyone here will give is CHANGE YOUR OIL! I'm also about to do my timing belt, the dealer quoted $2400, a local shop that does only German cars quoted $1700, I'm buying a kit online for $400 and waiting to hear back on a price from a trusted mechanic.
I have a 2002 A4 1.8T Q and it is the biggest piece of @#$%. It is a miracle if I make through a month with out a repair. So far I have replaced a wheel bearing, had a window fixed that would no longer roll up, replaced the timing belt, replaced the engine coils after one broke going 80 mph on the freeway (that was fun) and now it is in the shop because it won't start and my gas gauge says empty even right after I fill it up. Not tomention that I alreadyhad an appt for tomorrow to replace the rearrotors and break pads. All of this just since Janaury. That combinedwith the fact that premium gas around thecorner from my house in CA is $4.13....I am going to try and get rid of it this weekend.
