Default Replace Air Filter

2005 A4 Avant 1.8L quattro. How do I replace the air filter? Is this a job for a mechanic or is it something a novice like me could do.

Take the intake pipin off coming from the front, then take the MAF hose off the airbox, then use two crosstips to undo the top screws on the box, then pull out the box carefully looking towards the bottom of it, you'll see the way it comes out, is a little complicated at first but it comes out eventually, just be careful.

Crosstips may also be known as phillips head screws. The MAF hose is the vacuum hose that is basically on top of the box. Just disconnect it by using pliers to pinch and move the clamp down the hose.

Yeah, as explained above, just look in there and take your time so you don't break anything.

Default Air Pre-Filter

So last weekend I decided to see how bad my air filter was since my B6 was getting a little doggy. When I took the plastic air duct off, a piece came off from inside the duct. It was basically a fine screen to keep big stuff from getting down to the air box. This thing was caked full and I am suprised the car got any air. I took it in the house and cleaned it in the sink and now my car is running a lot better. This thing is a good idea, but I would not have noticed it if it didn't fall out. Just a little tidbit of info for others who are new to the B6.
