Default Since this is my first post, i'll start with a very newb oil question! :)

I took my manual into advanced auto and started looking for oil.
What they ended up giving me was Castrol Syntec Blend SAE 10W-30 Part Synthetic...

I bought 5 quarts as i wasn't sure how much i needed. After dumping in all 5 quarts, it still doesn't seem very high on this goofy *** dipstick.... I'm not sure if i have enough? have too much? so i came on here and found somewhere that someone used 5 quarts and that was good. then i find u should use mobile 1 full synthetic... The book says the oil must be API Service SJ if i remember and the back of the castrol it says it exceedsAPI Service SM,SL,SJ,SH...

I haven't started the car yet with this oil in it. Should i go find different oil? can someone post a link to buy Mobile 1 full synthetic or tell of a place to buy? Not sure if there is any audi dealers near me...

SOmone please help ASAP Thanks!

I have a 2005 A4 1.8t Quattro.

You have the incorrect oil and a qt to much. You need to drain out that extra qt before you kill the cat.

The 3 easiest oils to find are Mobil 0w40, Catrol 5w40, and Valvoline 5w30 synpower. All have to be full syn also or you will ruin your engine will oil sludge

I would say definitely go full synthetic as these cars have some oil sludging issues. You should be able to get it at a local autoparts store(NAPA,etc)

I don't think it will hurt to start it but I'd go get some synthetic first stop. I'm sure you will get more helpful responses here.

You could drive it as is for a ways, the problem with ordinary oil is it looses it's cleaning ability in something like 1000 miles, but worse it can burn in the turbo. If you are very careful to cool down the turbo, i.e. idle the engine for a minute before you shut it down you will be OK for a while. But change it to one of the approved oils soon. One option would be to use a sludge cleaner like seafoam while you have that oil in there, as you are planning on changing it anyway. BUY GOOD QUALITY FILTERS,the one you want is larger than what you probably have. ECS Tuning is a good source. http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...aign=B6A4Maint

With the large filter it will hold 4.3 quarts, so you are overfull. A vacuum oil changer works great for sucking the oil out. Might be nice to have one anyway. I have had one for 20 years and find it very handy.

Enjoy your new car.

Thanks for the replies, so far, liking the car, so far loving the forums! I just ran out and grabbed 4 quarts of castrol 5w-40.

I haven't even started the car with the other 10w-30 part synthetic garbage in it so i'm just going to drain it...

as for this oil filter, does anyone have the dimensions of it? I grabbed a k&n when i got the other oil, this is the largest oil filter i've seen! it's huge! i can't believe they make one bigger. going to the garage now to change the oil for the 2nd time tonight, i'll measure this filter too, let me know if that larger one is actuallly bigger Thanks again everyone for the replies!!!

Call your local audi dealership on this one. I had a "large" aftermarket filter on my 3.0 and it kinda wacked things up... stick to genuine AUDI for the FILTER

If it is huge like he claims, its the correct one. It is about an inch taller and fatter than the small filter.

If its the "HUGE" one that he has that I also had (i got the largest one they made for my platform) it gave me some oil issues, and once I put the OEM one in there it solved everything...
