smoked tail lights
I didnt think it was too bad.. im pretty good at applying even coats but even if not as long as you dont apply too much to where it runs, the sanding afterwards can fix that..
Materials i used:
1 Can of VHT Spray Tint (10 bucks)
1 Can High Gloss Clear Coat (5 bucks)
800, 1500, & 2000 grit sand paper (for various stages of sanding - 15 bucks)
Soap & water mixture
Painters tape (5 bucks if you dont already have some)
So at most youll pay about 35 bucks to complete it.. quick directions as to how i did it..
1. I removed the taillights and bulb housing so you just have the talilight lens itself.. removing them makes it muchh easier..
2. Using the 800 grit sandpaper and the soap/water mixture sand off the existing clear coat of the tails so that they look dull, this gives a good surface for the tint to adhere to..
3. For those who want to tape off the clear part, do so now using the painters tape.. this is very annoying but expect a good 30 minutes to do so.. take your time youll enjoy when its finished
4. Apply the spary tint in light - medium coats being sure not to apply too much where it runs.. allow a few minutes between coats; try and keep dust, hair, other particles from clinging to the fresh spray.. apply coats until you get your desired darkness.. i did about 5 thourogh coats so that mine are dark =]
4. Once youve reached the desired darkness, allow to dry to the touch.. then go ahead and remove the tape from the clear section (for those who used it) this is no longer needed.. then you want to take your 1500 grit sandpaper along with the soap/water mixture and sand the surface smooth..
5. Apply the clear coat in heavier coats than with the spray tint, but again be sure not to let it run, however if it does it can be fixed.. i applyed about 3 thick coats of the clear
6. This is the final step and the most important in getting that mirror finish.. you want to first use the 1500 grit paper and the soap/water combo to sand off imperfections and larger nicks.. then go ahead and use the 2000 as well as the soap/water to help smooth the surface and rid of the scratches made by the 1500.. now you want to utilize some type of clear plastic cleaner and polish to completely remove all those scratches and achieve that mirror finish.. saome people like to apply a coat of wax and really buff it in to get tje best finish possible.. this is up to as to what you want them to look like..
Hopefully this chelps a liitle harryd14 & sublime865 or to anyone who might want to tackle tinting their tails..

thanks man that was really helpful, i might be back for me questions when i get around to doing it. Say i go ahead and do it and decide that it is either not dark enough or too dark, can i just sand it all off and then rinse and repeat?
I also have the same colour. Aiming to get minesomething like the pic below.
