Default Squeal and loss of grip or power when I release the clutch

02 A4 1.8T Manual transmission

Hey guys this is very strange.

Let's say I'm at a red light and I get green. Off the start I'll press the clutch, shift and as I release the clutch, or half a second as the first gear is just coming under load I get a sudden high pitched and loud squeal along with a quick loss of power or what feels like grip. It's almost as if the clutch has lost grip and grabbed again

This just started and is only happening in first or second gear and it's pretty random. I'm only getting it off the line and have not had any issues with it in the higher gears. I really baby my clutch but I've only had the car since 2007 so I have no clew how it was used or for that matter, abused the first five years of it's life.

I've searched the forum but have not found a similar issue. Anyone have a clue as to what this might be?

When it comes to clutches..... To inspect them.... You need to pull the transmission. And if you going to do that you might as well replace it.

Noise is very common with a faulty throw out bearing

Thanks Auditek,

my research said that it might be the throwout bearing but either way that clutch is gonna be replaced this week. I'm *pretty sure* it's the disks slipping and then catching again but in your opinion, do you think a clutch job will fix it?

I'm sure you can find a clutch kit that comes with clutch disk, flywheel, pressure plate and a new throwout bearing. At least look for one first. Most of the time it'll be cheaper then buying each piece separate, and you know it'll work together fine instead of trying to piece something together.

Have you tried turning off the traction control to see if that might be causing the issue? The traction control will cut power if any of the wheels spin in 1st gear or if one of the ABS sensors is bad.

A bad TOB usually causes a pulsing feeling in the pedal since it pulses the fluid.

Update:

Hey guys, A clutch Job, a Valve cover gasket replace and some seal replacements, and it still wasn't fixed..... Wanna know what is was???? ******* OLD SPARK PUGS LOL.

It wasn't a huge deal though. My mechanic showed me the clutch and just like some of you said, it's a nine year old clutch..... It NEEDED to be replaced. The pads were worn down to the springs and the disk was done!. Now that all is well and she has new plugs in her, she runs like a beast.

Thanks for all the help and tips. Much appreciated!
