Default Stalling and turning off, juddering gearbox

I have recently purchased a 2001 A4 B6 sedan which has 84000 km/s and have noticed that while driving that sometimes the engine loses power, stalls and then turns off which requires you to restart is again. Does anyone know of a solution for this problem?

Also while at low speeds or climbing up a slight hill I found that the engine seems to be struggling and at times the gearbox starts to judder and when this happens I have no power. When this does happen the only way to fix it is to go to park, turn off and turn on and go back to drive. Is there any fixes for this also??

I really hope this will be an easy and cheap issue to fix as I really like this car and spent a quite a bit of money on it.

Thanks

Is your EPC light on?

Just had this happen, the crank speed sensor.

Not expensive, around $100 USD and not hard to install.

Thats called a CVT transmission and the source of your problems. You will most likely need a re-build on the trans or a new one. The dealer has about 6 TSB's on issues with the trans, all of them having extensive repairs. Not good news i know, but at least you know the source of the problems.
Ignore the engine speed sensor remark, thats complete bubkiss in your case.

Hmm ok thanks for pinpointing the problem! Would I have to go to an Audi dealer to get a new transmisson? Or would any shop do? Thanks

Most shops won't touch a CVT, the dealer would be your best bet.
