Exclamation Steering rack leaking fluid

Ok so the dealer has said I have a leak from my steering rack....slowly losing power steering fluid...I have to refill like once a month sometimes longer

The quote for the repair is $1,868! From the dealer

Has anyone dealt with this problem? I've gone a while with this and everygung else still works fine...are there risks for waiting on the repair?

Anything will help thanks

The dealer is trying to rip you off, find an independent shop to fix it... I've driven about 20k miles with my power steering rack leaking, and no problems... Just make sure to always keep some fluid in yoru trunk incase you start to hear it squealing... Since i plan on changing my rack in the near future, i don't run the oem power steering fluid (CHF11S) as its too expensive so lately i've been running Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF (red fluid) and it hasn't leaked as much, cause its much thicker than the CHF11S. It still leaks all the time, but I now fill it up like once a month rather than every 2 weeks

Also, if you don't mind me asking... where is the leak located? For instance, when you park your car and you see a few drips under it, where is it at? Front, middle, driver side, passenger side?

I have the same problem as well. I was quoted about $1000 from a local shop here which isn't too bad because the rack alone costs close to $500. but like Dahonam said, just make sure you keep the resevoir full and extra in the trunk.

I'm having the same problems. Using thicker fluid has slowed the issue down for me, but still having a leak and some steering issues when the engine is cold (due to the thicker fluid being slow to move, I believe).

I'm probably just going to ride it out until I have to install a new rack...

I also have the same problem. The repair shop quoted me near 1K. Have any of you had bad / good experiences with reman. / OE parts. This info would be helpful in deciding where to buy the replacement from.
