Default Strange Airbag Light on/off behavior

All, I'm the proud new owner of an A4 cabriolet, and loving it! I have a strange airbag light and was hoping for some guidance from the members here.

I did these tests with person physically in the seat, just by buckling the seat belts. Behaviour is the same with a person in the seat.

When there is one or two passengers in the front -> Airbag light is off
Driver and passenger side rear seat belt is buckled -> Airbag light is ON
Driver and driver side rear belt is buckled -> Airbag light is off
Driver and both rear belts are buckled -> Airbag light stays ON

When the car is turned off and back on, the airbag light stays off as long as the passenger side rear seat belt is not buckled.

Any thoughts? Strange problem ... seems like it might be some sort of seat belt sensor in the rear seat?

Hey i'm having the same problem and I did some research and it looks like some of the wiring may be causing this, and when that light is on it will turn off all your airbags in the car. I'm going to take mine to the dealership to hear what they have to say.

Mine does this too. Usually when there is a passenger in the back seat. I think it has to do with something in the seatbelt retractor. Whenever I scan mine I get something about and intermittent seatbelt something or another (hold on let me look).

Belt Tensioner Igniter; Rear Passenger Side (N197)
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

Common theory is that it is due to a wiring/connector problem.

thanks guys ... i will take a look at the seatbelt in that position. If the dealer has any insight that would be great to know.

I'll share what I find too.
