I just purchased an 02 a4 1.8T with 104k with no mechanical record. So the first thing I do is order a timing belt/water pump kit from ecs. Today I went to do the job and noticed that the old belt was one tooth off. The car drove fine and I had no codes, just wondering if this was possible.

 

Yes it is - a tooth off and it'll run without damage or anything. You'll probably see better mileage and power once it's fixed.

 

Good to know. I thought the gas mileage was a little low. I was getting about 23 and do mostly highway driving. We'll see when I'm up and running again.
