Default Traction control has a mind of its own

Hey guys ,

I have an 02 A4 1.8t quattro w/auto tranny. lately the traction system has been engaging and disengaging while im driving and sometimes when im stopped at lights. it make's it hardto take off sometimes cause the car think's its loosing its traction and wont let me excelerate. Yesterday I was close to getting rear ended when I pulled out and it all the sudden locked on

I took it to a well known vw/audi shop here in Toronto the said replace the tranny, then I spoke with and old audi Tech he said there is a magnetic box on the top of the tranny that just may be the problem

I just dont want to start in the wrong place with the repairs due to cost to drop the tranny!

Any thoughts ?

That sounds feasible... If the ESP is actually engaging the magnets could be a culprit. If the light is the only thing coming on then is probably your ABS sensor behind your left headlight.

Ya the ABS sensor was the first thing I changed, that did nothing of course. So the magnetic box is next. I did some reasearch and found a guy that says he fixes theses problems for about $150 here in Toronto . Seems to good to be true, but Im taking it to him next week to check it out at the very least. Dealership is not an option they want close to $500 I found out yesterday, that aint cool.

Thanks for the input dude.

Good luck. Another thing to keep in mind could be your axles, if some debris gets in them (very rare) the sensor could be getting false readings of overspeed in the axles engaging the ESP.

Thats true too, I am taking it in this week to see about the box on the tranny. If that doesnt help, that sounds like another good place to look.

Thanks again man

Problem solved! it was the magnetic box on the tranny. I was down 3 days but its up and rolling again for under $300.
