Trunk won't close, could it be the auto opener?
Hi.
The trunk in my 2003 convertible will not close. I have read several threads that deal with this issue and with the trunk not opening and most recommend to apply WD40 to the latch or replace it. I believe my case is different as I am suspecting the opener (striker, solenoid and servo motor in other threads).
The latch mechanism seems to operate properly but the retention arm that should keep it closed can not move because the opener is pulling from it.
I have removed the long rod that connects the latch to the opener. Now I can open it with the key and close it. I just cannot open it from the door or the remote.
I believe the opener is stuck in the open position. When I hit the open button in the remote I can hear two distinct clicks inside the opener but nothing moves.
When I made a search for the part number (Hella HLO 7546-46) the only thing I found was this Russian page SBF882092631 - that shows a couple of pictures with actuators that are like an inch out of the case, whereas mine seems to be all the way in
Can anybody tell from this info and the pics whether the opener is defective?
If so, can it be ordered online or will I have to buy through an Audi dealer?
Thanks!

I had this happen with my 2003 convertible and I bought the new trunk lock mechanism. I purchased the wrong one, so when I was putting back the original, it miraculously started working again. I was also having top issues, so it could have been related...as sometimes they are.
If you can unlock it with the key, I would say the actual lock is fine, maybe something electronic. I would disconnect it from the trunk and reconnect just to make sure. Good luck, probably wasn't much help.

I tried disconnecting an re-connecting but no luck.
Do you happen to remember whether your opener had the white rod all the way in or was like an inch out of the housing?
Thanks!
