Default Trunk won't close.....warning.......

I was having difficulties closing my trunk after bringing my 2006 A4 from the West Coast to Alberta. I have heard that cold weather can cause havoc withthe trunk latch. The trunk would close but the latch would not catch, the security system could not be activated and my dash was registering the trunk as open. I finally had a chance to bring my car into the dealership. They stated that my trunk latch was damaged due to outside influences and now I am stuck paying $345 to get the mechanism replaced. I told them that the latch was not working before I tried to close the trunk but they attributed the problem to me trying to slam the trunk. So a word of warning...... have the latch looked at before you really try shutting the trunk.

+1 to that. That's bullsh*t and they know it. They're just doing what they can to avoid absorbing a cost they should be covering.

Now they can't get the part in for a week and I am stuck renting a car "at their discounted rate" until my part comes in.......is this the normal Audi experience? I am ready to sell my car and go drive something else!

just take your car back until the part comes in, and leave nothing of value in your car or trunk.

Not even. The dealer bills Audi for warranty work. It doesn't come out of their own funds. They're probably just trying to get more money out of you than they would from Audi, or possibly even bill both you and Audi. If you haven't paid them yet, go to another dealership.

so let me get this straight... they said you damaged it by trying to close it? why would you be trying to close it so much so it gets damaged unless there was a problem with it to begin with? even if you damaged the mechanism by repeatedly trying to slam it, it still was malfunctioning and they should have covered it. i would go over their heads and make a complaint, it can really help to contact audi themselves.
