I have an 04 A4 1.8t Auto Quattro. Was just told that I need a new turbo, it's making a crazy sound. Any suggestions on where to get one? Also what kind of turbo do I have? Is it a K03? Can I just buy one off of ebay, I see them for like $240+/-?

well, what kind of noise is it making? and is it still boosting? what about leaking any oil/coolant?

that said. you have a k03s("s" for sport. only comes on 2001 and up 1.8t A4's). and do not buy one off of ebay. they are 98% of the time knock offs. look around on the classifed's here and the other forums. you'll find one for cheap.. also post up a post in the WTB section if you can't find anything

 

Someone recently said they needed one on the audizine list, a bunch of people responded willing to sell one. There are a lot around as they get changed out for the k04. Expect to pay $100 - 150 for a used one.

 

It's make a sound that almost sounds like a belt that needs to be changed. Mecanic said the bearings inside of it were going and that it would be all around cheaper to change it out.

 

if its the bearings just search online for a tubro rebuild kit. I've seen them for under $100 and they come with everything you need to rebuild it.

 

Would a mecanic rebuild this? I lack the time to do it myself or the will lol. If the rebuild is a little under $100 and turbo used is $150-$200 what's better?

my 05 1.8t makes a whine noise when idling and when i kill the motor i can hear the turbo spinning down. is that normal?

 

^ It is prolly not the turbo spinning down but the fan of the cooler slowind down.
