I have only been able to get 24 measured at a fill up for mostly highway driving. The auto hurts quite a bit. But the only honest discussion of mpg is measured not the usage readout on the dash as those are very optimistic. Mine typically reads 30 while cruising on the highway at 80 but when I fill the tank the actual usage is quite a bit lower.

you will find the automatics do much worse, but my six speed gets 32-35mpg stock and still gets 28-32 with apr 1+... you will find as with any car its related to how you drive. drive hard, MPG goes down, drive easy, it goes up, the 1.8t can vary its mileage quite a bit.

also forget the arguement about premium gas, you are buying a german luxury car (true it is 6 year old car and entry level but still a decent ride) much better than a chevy aveo orsomething! and safer too!

at 20 cents a gallon more for premium at 15 gallon tank thats $3 more per tank for premium, i usually get gas 4 times a month so it makes ita whole $12 a month for premium! big deal, one drink out of friday is 12

I can get anywhere from high 30s to 6.5-7.8MPG. I drive hard and fast, I once averaged 9.3MPG on a trip from Rutland VT to Boston MA, and that HURT at the pump. I have also made the same trip at 36MPG, same car same specs.

I also have a 2003A4 1.8TQuattro w/5 Speed, which was bone stock for those trips.

If you want fuel economy buy a FrontTrac manual Audi (a.k.a. Volkswagen) and drive lightfooted. I have heard a lot of reports that chipping it can give you better mileage, and I am inclined to believe it, just not for me. I would be getting about 5MPG. Holding off on a chip is my way of saving the environment LOL

Honestly, I don't know exactly what MPG I'm getting outta my 1.8T Manual Quattro, but it is probably above 20 City and near 30 Hwy. That's with me driving it fast (But smooth) damn near all the time. I'm always into the turbo, so the mileage I get outta her constantly amazes me. You should be fine, but if gas budget is really an issue, then you probably need a honda civic, fit, or a scion derivative.

Driving my manual 1.8t easy i've never gotten below 25mpg. Put your foot down and pay the price to go fast. You'd be surprised how well they coast when you throw them into idle and coast up to stoplights or generally just use your brakes less. Do this alot and you'll keep your mpg up.

Yeah Having a hyper-efficient 1.8 litre engine helps a lot. Ever since I read about the all-gas A2 getting 90+ MPG guaranteed real world (unlike the "up to 60MPG Hybrid Honda Insight" gimmick that gets you the same fuel economy as a lowly Civic or Accord), I have placed a lot more faith in Audi engines. Clean, economical, and small, but when you put your right foot down you forget you dont have 3+ litres under the hood.
