Would you recommend-front damage??
So I was looking into getting a 2005 1.8L A4 (B6 vs) 6speed. It is a salvage car. It has been in a front collision (look at attached pictures).
I was going to ask for your opinion (the public, experts) on what you thought on this route.
I have quite a bit of mechanical experience, and feel confident I could patch this baby up as I have torn apart an a4 v6 motor fully to do a head gasket job. But, what do you think? Would it be worth it if I got it for a good price?
Also, can anyone give me a better sense of parts I may need. I have a good idea, but not fully sure.

Airbags are deployed, I'd say you'd have to live with a lot of light on the dashboard, the damage doesn't seem to be substantial, unless the pictures are not doing enough justice; and I also believe that's an Ultrasport version, so the damage could have been merely cosmetical but once again I don't know. Make sure the subframe underneath didn't break or become missaligned. Seems like you're going to need everything on the fron of the AC pulley (radiator+support+steering cooler+bumper absorber+bumper+lower airdam+underbelly pan+front grille, all of them+headlights+foglights+rebar+maybe even intercooler+perhaps some cooling piping).
I wouldn't buy it unless is under 4K.

What do you think about the airbags? I can't tell if the drivers side airbag went off, but the passenger side airbag definitely went off. Is it tough to replace the airbags? I understand with the passenger airbag, one might need to replace the whole dash. What else is there involved in replacing airbags? Are there side airbags for the B6 series? Also, what about seat belt airbag tensioners? The control module can be fixed up or replaced with a used one, which isn't a problem. I had to do that to my current Audi. But I'm not too familiar with handling airbags. If anyone wants to give some input, that would be great!

If you have to go thro a salvage inspection to get a usable title and such your going to need to have NO lights on. So you would need to replace and have recipets for all work done to and parts replaced. They will take apart the dash to check the serial numbers. So if you do this be prepared for a long and expensive road ahead.
My car is a salvage as well ( No air bag deployment) but it is a tough inspection to pass.

What do you mean by they take apart the dash to check for serial numbers? Yeah, well I figure if there are no lights and if everything is as it should be, it should pass with no problem.
Did you encounter any problems having your car pass? And any suggestions you may have on the process?
Its a timely process. They will check the numbers on replaced items such as airbags ,seat belts, ect. They want to know that the car was done correct with no error. They can be sticklers if you do not have reciepts. They arent big fans of what the state considers "home mechanics". Luckly my family is in the mechanics business so my father drew up reciepts for what we did on our own time and I passed with no setbacks. There where other people waiting with myself that didnt pass for reciepts such like tail light replacements, head light replacements. Make sure you keep everything and bring it with you! It cost 200 here to get an appt.

Hmm...interesting. I just called the DMV in my home town, Rochester, MN. They seemed pretty laid back about the whole thing. The guy told me $35 bucks, 30 minutes at most, and we just write down as many serials as we can from parts, need recipts and everything working properly. Otherwise, no problem.
So, I wonder if NY may be more picky than MN.....I guess I'll see and find out. At least the fee is cheep. Plus, they will give me license plates and tabs which are good for one year. I can drive the car for that year, but need to have it inspected before the year is up if I want to renew tabs....interesting....right?
Random thing....my radar scanner just came in today in the mail. Going out now to test it out! Got the passport 9500i!
