Default 08 B7 Battery change $298.00 + TAX are you kidding??

Took my car in today for some repairs and maintenance, brakes, wheel bearings, filters etc. The battery is 5 years old, and the dealer told me it would be $298.00 plus tax to change it!! they told me the car needed to be "programmed to the battery". Really? Do people really pay for this kind of stuff? I will obviously change it myself, but my question is in the 08 B7 a4 s type, will the battery pack through the 12v adapter keep my radio and ECU with enough voltage that I dont need to reprogram it, security system or my radio codes?
If anyone knows on this year and make can you please chime in? Yes I have done the searches and read about various models, but wanted to know about the 08.
thank you
Nd

i have an 08 and changed my battery last winter (jan.) and didnt have a problem with losing my radio info or needing a security code. i didnt use a battery pack or anything in the cig. lighter either.

i cant believe what they charge for a battery. i was able to get one at walmart for around $100 i think. its better than stock too, which i needed because i added an amp and subs and have pretty cold winters.

Same here, changed mine a year ago and didn't lose any programing. No way I would pay $300 to change the batt!

That what I told my dealer, and he did it for half price and threw in a complete detail, inside and out and engine compartment, at no cost. Only problem, the cleaner they used smelled OK not great, but lasted about 6 months until it dissipated.

Default battery

I wasnt going to go "cheap", but even a $150.00 battery, leaves $150 in labor to change it and "program the car to the battery". Thats just nuts.

I've got the same car you have and changed the battery myself. I didn't know any different, so used the 12V battery pack in the cig lighter in fear of losing any settings...

Recommend you have a 12" extension for your ratchet, as the hold down for the battery is tricky to get to. I don't remember the size (seems like it was an 8 or 10mm if I remember correctly...) but it's hell without the extension.

Good luck - you'll be glad you did it yourself and saved the money.
