2.0t rough idle and engine noise
I just had new coils put in my car, part of the recall. They did not change how the engine ran. It has the four cylinder buzz at idle, which smooths out once you get going. It is not bad if the engine is not having to run any accessories. Once the AC or any thing like the rear defroster comes on, you can tell that the load on the engine changes, and it vibrates/buzzes more. After reading on various blogs about the cam follower issue, I am going to make an appointment to have that checked out before it causes expensive damage. The car is still under warrenty. VW or Audi, longitudinal or transverse the 2.0t FSI is known for the problem.
check the air filter. if it's plugged up bad, you'll get a rough idle. you may also want to have the cam follower checked. do you get a check engine code? a bad cam follower gives a rough idle and may give a CEL code of misfire.

The 2.0L in those years vibrate BAD at idle, especially with an auto trans in gear. There was revised engine mounts but didn't make a whole lot of difference IMO. It's the frequency of the engine firing pulses and the resonate frequency of the car happening to match at idle. Still can't believe Audi allowed a car like that to be released. I mean, you expect the bad idle vibration in a low priced car like the Ford Focus (the early cars were HORRIBLE) but not a German luxury model.
As mentioned, direct injection is noisy (same as ALL direct injected engines). Secondary fuel pressure is upwards of 2,400 psi. Price you pay for efficiency and government compliance. Diesel's are of course direct injected and that's what causes most of the noise they make, although the newer ones are quieter than gas engines in a lot of cases!
