A4 2.0T lag at takeoff
We've had an 06 A4 2.0T Cabriolet for about a year now and have noticed that it has a lag when taking off from a stop. It feels like it is going to stall but will then pick up and go. Makes me nervous to pull out into traffic. I don't remember it being this bad when we first got it. Any ideas?
I have an '06 2.0T quattro automatic that does something similar. It's done this since I got it 2+ years ago and Audi says it's normal. I've just adapted my driving to compensate.
It seems like it happens when you are rolling (not quite stopped) and the transmission hasn't shifted down to 1st. If you give it enough gas to force the kickdown, you get the lag. If you don't, it will accelerate smoothly and stay in 2nd gear. At least that's what I've observed.

Yeah, the diverter valve is on my list but haven't done it yet. I also wondered about the PCV (or whatever they call it). I'm not sure if it has been updated or not. I am also curious about the trans. It really wants to get to the higher gears quickly. In sport mode it will stay in first gear until it is pretty wound up and then go straight to 5th or 6th gear. It really bogs down and doesn't want to shift to the lower gears without kicking it down. Seems that way in regular drive mode too but can't really tell what gear it's in.
