Default Advice on 2007 A4 Avant

Looking for some advice as i plan to sell my 05 v8 Touareg and pick up a Avant. mainly doing this as i need the hatch space for the dog and minor hauling but need something more practical for commuting.

I was curious if this year only has the tiptronic and no dsg? Also i can get one for about 10k less than a 09 B8 version, is the B8 that much better of a vehicle in terms of the overall package.

Just trying to get some advice and opinions on anyone whom owns an avant.

Thanks

Most of us with Tiptronic are experiencing the RPM surging due to torque converter, the only fix is to replace. So make sure you get a warranty. I love my Avant but would not buy another Tip.

There is no DSG for Audi's before 2009, with the exception of the A3, TT and maybe the A1 and A2, but I'm not too sure about the last 2. The reason is that the original DSG is only for transversely mounted engines, like A3, TT, and all VW's. There is now a longitudinal DSG for Audis called S-tronic. It's basically a DSG but with some modifications. It's only on models from 2009 up (because they invented it in late 2008), so... I hope this makes your car search easier. Good luck. (a4 allroad FTW!)

Watch out for oil comsumption too. I had my piston rings replaced due to oil consumption and the torque converter replaced due to the RPM surging. Both were covered under the CPO warranty.

So based on my single car experience, I would reccomend that if you get a B7, get a CPO car with a warranty.

thanks for the advice, i had found a used 07 A4 avant at a acura dealer in PA priced very low but after the engine warmed up, i experienced a rpm surge above 2k rpm and realized i better walk away from this.

If you like A3's you can get a hatch and a DSG. My GTI which is basicly the same car fit my 60 pound dog in the hatch area fine. A3 will be about 300 pounds lighter and quicker. Older ones did not have 2.0t / quatro together but newer years do. Awesom cars. DSG is an amazing tranny.

yeah, I really wish I had it. I've driven my dad's EOS a couple of times with the DSG... so quiet and precise. My tranny feels like a russian tank afterwards. New a3's are so sweet. Those rear led lights... great design.

How does the trunk space of the a3 compare with the b7 avant?
