So do the chips come with different firmware for CVT, Tiptronic, etc?
I'd think different things need to be done for the different trannies,
at a high level.

Hey guys im new forum. I just got rid of an 2004 r32 and got a 2006 a4 quattro. anyway the guy i bought it from has an exhaust and apr stage 1 chip but it dosn't have the lockout. And wouldnt you on the third day the engine light came on. i wanted to see if the chip was truly undetectible and i guess it is because the dealer upgraded a bunch of stuff and it was still under the warranty. They said nothing about it.i dunno how it was especially with the exhaust but i could kick myself in the nuts cause now the chip dosnt turn on at all. and i dont think the dealership replaced my entrie ecu? but now im wondering what to do. does it just need to get reflashed or is it f#*ked?

However i do think chips are great they help out so much

The dealership probably just flashed it back to stock, so you'll need to get re-flashed. I'm not sure what APR's policy is regarding if the flash is with the car or with the customer, so you may have to purchase it.

i think they do it for free i know it only takes a few minutes. but the nearest one for me is a hundred miles not that i really care but do you think it would be worth it just to buy the home programmer cable and then id just have it and could upload their new software whenever they come out with it from my computer right to the chip?
thanks for the quick response

I don't know anything about this cable... as far as I know you have to take it to an APR installer to get flashed there or send in the ECU to APR physically.

In another forum one guy had his warranty voided due to APR chip installed. I am gonna think twice before doing this now......

I thought it would cause a great big problem at my dealership but i was suprised they said nothing about it and did all my service for free as if it was under warranty. And if u really want your car to preform well i think its the only way to go i really does make a big difference but maybe i just got lucky.
its up to you though

I also have the stock mode and lockout feature..

If you have something wrong with your car that's covered under warranty..before you goto the dealer set the car back to stock simply of using the Cruise Control. Put your password in, and it's 100% undectable.
and just so you know that is not a true statement. it is detectable.

when something serious breaks and if they check ECU.........most likely you will be screwed

It also depends on the dealer. I remember someone mentioned in
another thread, some dealers are cool with chips and some even
do the chip for you.
