Default B7 Question

Hey guys and gals, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking to get a 2006 - 2008 Audi A4 2.0T. In my search on cars.com, autotrader.com, and kellybluebook, I noticed that automatics outweigh manuals about 10 to 1. Why is that? I really would like to get a manual but they seem rare. Is that because most people bought the auto/tip-tronic?

Welcome! As far as automatics vs manual, I think you probably hit it on the head. Most Americans buy automatics, why? I do not know. When I bought my 07, I wanted a manual transmission as the reviews I read (German) stated the 2.0T performed best with the 6sp standard tranny. I would have considered an automatic if the A4's had the DSG transmission, but it does not. That said, keep looking around, there is bound to be one out there somewhere. I would also look at 2007/2008 models, these had some updates, and changes that the 04-06 did not have (Europe started the A4 B7 at the end of 2004). The 2008 models you get the S-line body kit as well.

Good luck!

The B7 is a great car. I just happened to find an 06 manual at my local dealership. Some of the 05 and 06 models have issues that were corrected or redesigned a little for the 07 and 08 years, so you might want to look at those first. The 07's will be comming off lease now, so you will probably find lots of 07's available.

Hey thanks alot for the welcome and information. i would prefer to go with a 2008 but they are a little more expensive, so I'll probably end up going with 2006/2007.

If you don't mind can you tell me some of the issues they fixed in the 2007/2008 models?

The PCV valve was redesigned, by the end of the B7's it was on its third design, and part way through 2007 the cam follower and intake cam for the high pressure fuel pump was redesigned. The cam and follower were then completely redesigned again for the B8. There were a few other thinks that i cannot rememeber. The PCV caused poor performance, bad gas mileage, and in some cases increased oil consumption. The cam follower when it failed caused very expensive damage to the fuel pump, intake cam, and follower. Not all 05 and 06's had these probems, but they have and do happen.

Some changes are as B7Night said. Also the CD player was changed in the non-Navigation model for 2007 to a 6 CD changer (in Dash not glove box) that is MP3 compatible. The 07/08 also have a smaller SAT? antenna on the roof, replacing the larger one found in the 04-06 lineup. As far as engines, I would look for the BWT version for the standard 200hp motor, these were the revamped ones starting for the 2007 model and probably included the mod's that B7Night stated. Also they are the same as the European BWE versions here in Germany. Also if you like the Sline look (who doesn't!) the 2006 and 2007's (not sure on the 2005) had the same look as the 2008 body kit, but had the added suspension and seats as well (aka a real S-Line!)

B7Night,
Are those issues specific to 2005/2006 models, or do some of the early 2007 models have that problem too?

Aetius,
Sorry but can you tell me what you mean by BWT? (I'm a noob)

Thanks!

BWT is the engine model/Number. Earlier versions of the 2.0T FSI were BWE, BGB, BUL etc. I have seen several newer A5's here in Germany that use the tuned down 170hp BWT engine,

Here is an (older) link that breaks it down better;
