Default Buying a used B7 2006 A4 2.0T Quattro w/ 80k miles - what to watch out for?

Hey guys,

I'm a new member here, but hope to contribute to the forum if I make this purchase. Been driving Acuras for the past 10 years, but wanted to make the switch and try out an Audi A4. Having some trouble with the search function (says invalid URL, so figured I would start here and ask for some expert opinions). Recently found an 2006 A4 2.0T Quattro with 80k miles (supposedly mostly highway miles). Other than the usual things to look for when buying used, are there any specific issues to look out for with this model specifically (recalls, expensive upcoming services, etc)? Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I went to take a look at the car this morning, and the owner said that a check engine light just appeared today. He said it was probably due to the car needing its 75k service. Is this normal, and is there anything else I should have inspected in closer detail? Thanks again!

I wouldn't be too scared, but you should definitely take it to someone to pull the codes before you buy. Could be minor, could be expensive--you won't know until you check.

Seems like 80k miles is a bit high to let it wait for the 75k mile service. The normal service interval is 10k miles, so that's possibly as much as 15k since the last one (unless he's just stretched it a few hundred miles each interval). I'd check over the service records or that would make me a little nervous.

I haven't looked to see what is coming at 75k, but you may need to prepare to drop another $500-1000 on that immediately if you don't DIY.

PS - I just got my '06 A4 quattro about 6 weeks ago, so I'm still learning. I lucked out as the one I found had only 35k miles on it! I absolutely LOVE this car.

good car..... and yeah i mil could be something minor or major. but my experience ..................if you already have the light going off b4 u buy it...... id pass. thats just not saying good.............light should not come on cuz of not having a service...... when i first got my audi id go to the dealership all the time for service. when it started going over 55k.... and it was 550 when there just basically changing the oil looking things over and putting in new plugs.. i skipped on that i never have a problem. i try to go to a good local meh. for tune up/service.. but i always go to the dealership for an oil change just cuz they will look your car over and tip you off to anything bad happeing like leaks. ect......... but audi with a check engine light on and u didnt even buy it...... id keep looking

Engine light won't come on for service. The in dash computer will tell you with words. Something is up with the car. Also read my sticky up top and it will tell you all tips/qwirks on these cars. Personally at 80k I start looking to get out of these cars, out in.

German = $$$ to fix.
