Cam follower and camshaft warranty question
2007 2.0 w/134k
Camshaft, cam follower and high pressure fuel pump replaced under warranty with what I assume is the revision model in 2013. I don't recall the month or mileage as I write this. Car died in driveway, checked codes and found p2293, p2294 and p0089. Pulled HPFP, cam follower has a nice big hole in in and I will assume the camshaft is damaged but, I didn't even bother inspecting further once I saw the cam follower damage. It was my understanding that this past warranty work with the revised parts were supposed to resolve this.

-Has anyone had success with the dealer fixing this AGAIN with the vehicle out of warranty?
-Has anyone had success in finding all those broken pieces of the cam follower?
-Can someone brighten my day?

Thoughts? I haven't even had the problem one time much less two, but my guess is you're going to be out of luck trying to get Audi to pay for it if the car had already been fixed with the updated parts. Get all your paperwork in order and it doesn't hurt to ask, but I'm betting on a firm "no" from the dealership.

Will report back when dealer gets car.
Thank you. I would strongly suggest you check your cam follower and see how it a wearing. It a known issue for sure, unsure why some have it and some don't. I thought the warranty work was to fix this issues once and for all, but apparently not.

I wish audi would tell me what they would do over the phone as I don't want to waste anyone's bringing it there and back if it comes to that. I think it would be right for Audi to take responsibility for this since they put a replacement program in place to apparently fix this. If they didn't have this program in place and it failed, well it would be different.
My follower for my 06 went at 108,000 miles, and it was catastrophic. I was fortunate it happened before 120,000 miles. I was actually getting ready to dump the car and replace it, because of the potential issue. I didn't want it to fail outside of the warranty. Everything from the head up had to be replaced. You name it the follower failure with it's metal shrapnel destroyed it. The difference with the original design and the modified design, is a two piece vs, one piece intake cam shaft, and a thicker follower. Otherwise it's the same concept, two pieces of lubercated metal sliding on each other. A total redesign with a roller, instead of a follower was done for the 09 TFSI engines. I replace my follower every two years. I don't want to take the chance of it happening again. The last follower was only in for about 35,000 miles, and the teflon coating was already gone on the bottom, and there were little scratches on the edge of the follower. I kept it for reference. The guys at the shop said that it was actually in pretty good condition, but understood my concern and why I was willing to basically do a $200 "maintenance item", every couple years.
