cpo v. extended service plan?
I'm starting to think about parting with my '02 A6 Avant and finding a '07 B7 2.0T (sedan) that has some new car warranty remaining. Wondering: should I limit my search to Audi dealer CPO cars, or should I open the search to include others? If I look beyond Audi lots, I'd definitely be interested in purchasing what Audi calls an "extended service plan." Beyond the names of the various plan tiers, I can't find much info on pricing and whether an Audi extended service plan is a more comprehensive option than their CPO program. In the end, am I just better off taking the hit on the cost for the CPO?
I'm not talking about a 3rd party extended warranty, unless someone has a very strong suggestion otherwise.
If anyone has any info or thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Extended warranties/service plans are resold third-party (I think Fidelity is the typical one) warranties, they are usually subject to a small(ish) per-incident deductible, and they are insanely expensive (IMO). I would have been happy to consider CPO if it were an option for me, but my car's in-service date put it just a few months out of warranty and out of CPO-ability.
Given my car only had 35k miles on it, I have a good local mechanic for the basic stuff and a few Audi/VW specialists for other stuff, and I am fairly capable with a few minor things myself, I decided to take my chances. I would have to rack up quite a few large repairs to equal what the warranty would have cost.

Thanks for the responses.
The extended warranty sold by audi may be insanely expensive, but certified b7s seem to be marked up at least a couple grand on audi lots, on average (guesstimate), from where they were a year/year-and-a-half ago. If you can find a low mileage b7 on a non-audi lot (or private seller) that still has some new car warranty left on it, it seems to me like it may make more sense to buy an expensive extended warranty (through audi) rather than buy the marked-up CPO and only get the two years of CPO coverage past the end of the factory warranty. I will not buy a used Audi that doesn't have some sort of extended coverage on it.
So the first part of my posted question still stands... does what I detail above make sense to anyone else? Regardless, is the highest-level extended warranty coverage still be better than CPO coverage?
