Default Exhaust mod

So, my A4 is chipped up and I have the test pipe.. Im not dropping the loot for the $1100 exhaust system. So heres my question, I was told if I take the resonator box out and throw in straight pipes in its place I would get a good hp gain (10hp) and itd sound pretty aggressive, but not too loud since turbo exhausts never are....
If you look down under you car, you'll see the down pipe turn into a Y shape and go into the resonator with 2 pipes and then out two pipes. The idea i mentioned would connect the Y to the 2 exhaust pipes going to the muffler.
So my question is: 1) will this 100 dollar installed option create a tiny bit of power...And 2) Will it sound good and deep or will it just be to obnoxiously loud?

Thanks guys

I don't know how much gain getting rid of the resonator will give you, but it should make it have a more aggressive sound. It shouldn't be obnoxious, though, with the stock mufflers still on.

Stock exhaust is large enough to go to a K04 turbo. The restiction is at the Cat. You will not gain any noticable power from an exhaust after the cat and most companies like to lie about the numbers.

You may gain 1 or 2 but not feel it really. You risk making your car sound like *** but thats your gamble. I would not do it unless you can accept a noise change only.

My buddy did this on his 2.0t jetta and the sound was near the same as the Jetta and A4 have some crazy quiet mufflers and he was pissed as he wanted more sound. He ended up with a Manaflow mufflers which sounded better and he had no real change on his dyno sheet after stage 2.

Your best bet is to get the APR rebuilt fuel pump for 5 or 600 and you will get that extra power with the stage 2(Plus) tune. They claim about 2hp but 10tq. Tq is where it's at. Popular mod on the GTI forums as it is claimed to feel like going stage 1 to stage 2 all over again.

You wont gain any hp at all really, 2wdblazer nailed it on the head. You can buy an ebay exhaust called obx for the 2.0t, thats what I bought and i have it coupled with a test pipe and it sounds really good. I've very happy with the ebay exhaust, cost me like 500$ shipped for the exhaust. just search ebay "audi a4 b7 obx exhaust" and it has it for auto's and mt's
